Updated Goals

We all have goals in our lives, whether it be in the classroom, at work or at the gym.  Goals keep us motivated, keep us focused, fuels the fire and gives us a target to shoot for.  We should always have something to shoot for to strive for to help us get to where we want to be in life.  There is no need to settle for complacency, always keep striving for excellence and being as successful as you can.  What are your goals in the gym right now?  What are you training for?  Are you training to lose weight?  If so, how much weight and when do you want to lose it by?  Are you training to build muscle or get stronger on a specific lift?  Then what are you doing about it and how much stronger do you want to get?  Goals need to be as specific as possible.  The details and the dates are extremely important motivators which help you both consciously and subconsciously.  Instead of saying I want to lose weight, try saying I want to lose 10 lbs by December 31, 2015.  Write your goals down on a piece of paper and put them somewhere you can read them everyday because this will help you achieve them.  You will continue to make the necessary choices to get you one step closer to your goals.  I have been taking some time off with this blog and heavy lifting and now I feel it is time to set some goals and go after them.  I am still going through the process of my lifelong goal of becoming a firefighter and I am putting a lot of time and energy into that and will continue until I succeed.

In the meantime, here are my lifting goals I will try to achieve by the end of the year:

  • Trapbar Deadlift: 405lbs
  • Straight Bar Deadlift: 315lbs
  • 100lb Chin Ups: 10 reps
  • Overhead Press Body Weight: 170lbs
  • Dumbbell Bench Press 100lbs: 10 reps
  • Body Weight Back Squat (170 lbs): 20 reps
  • Weighted Sled Push/Pull: 600 lbs
  • 100 meters on the rower: sub 17 seconds

Set your goals high and go after them.  Train hard, do your best, give it all you got and don’t worry if you fail.  Some of these may be to easy and I will adjust accordingly and super-succeed my expectations and some will be painfully difficult.  Either way I am up for the challenge.  Go out there and do something great!

Allow yourself to dream,
And when you do dream big

Allow yourself to learn
And when you do learn all you can

Allow yourself to laugh
And when you do share your laughter

Allow yourself to set goals
And when you do reward yourself as you move forward

Allow yourself to be determined
And when you do you will find you will succeed

Allow yourself to believe in yourself
And when you do you will find self confidence

Allow yourself to lend a helping hand
And when you do a hand will help you.

Allow yourself relaxation
And when you do you will find new ideas.

Allow yourself love
And when you do you will find love in return

Allow yourself to be happy
And when you do you will influence others around you.

Allow yourself to be positive
And when you do life will get easier.

What’s Your Why?

What is your why?  Why do you get up each and every day and go to work?  Why do you do the things you do?  Is it for happiness, success, materials or for your kids?  What makes today different than any other day?  I believe we all want success, happiness and even money but in order to achieve any of that we have to dig down deep and figure out the why.  We have to figure out the underlying motivation which drives us to work harder, earn more money, to live the life we want to live.  My why right now is 100% for my kids.  I am working and saving as much money as I can to move into a house for my kids to enjoy and play.  I want them to have a big yard to play in, to get dirty, to play in the sprinklers and to ride their bikes in.  My why for work is and will always be to help people.  I have always wanted to help others ever since I was little and I feel with being a personal trainer I can guide my clients to great health and a healthy lifestyle.  I love my job as a trainer and I never complain about a day at work because if you do what you love you feel like you never work a day in your life.  I am fortunate enough to work at one of the best gyms I have ever worked at with some of my great friends and have amazing clients that continue to train with me.  My why is not measured by the amount of money I earn or a new fancy car or any new electronic gadgets but it is measured by the happiness of my children.  I love the fact I am able to come home middle of the day and spend time with my kids and I’m not stunk in some 9 to 5 job all day.  I have always said that as long as I have my 3 girls (wife and 2 daughters) then I am and will be happy anywhere.  My family is my life and my life is my family.

Your job this week is to do some soul searching and ask yourself what is you why?  Why do you grind and continue to do the things you do?  If you have big lofty goals you want to achieve, write them down and put them somewhere you can read them everyday and make the necessary steps to make your goals become a reality.  Here is a little motivational video to help inspire us and figure and why we grind.

19 Hard Things For Success

My whole life have played it safe, been very calculated, not taken much risks and have always played not to lose.  I have never been the die hard, go getter winner take all, win at all costs type of person ever.  At least not until now.  Just recently I had an epiphany with life and with golf.  I am tired of playing it safe and being too cautious because I am tired of not achieving the great results I am after.  If you want something bad enough, you have to try with all your might, swing hard and keep being aggressive until you are one step closer to your goals.  I am done with fear, worrying and what if’s, creeping into my head and wondering whats going to happen if I don’t hit a perfect shot.  It is time to believe in myself, my abilities, my talents, my success and my life and start taking the big risks.  Gone are all the bad negative, worrying thoughts and in are all the great, successful, positive and aggressive thoughts.  I am ready to play to win and not to lose.  I am tired of taking second place because I am a winner, I know that I am and it is time to start performing and acting like one.  It is time to believe and make some magic happen.  Get out of my way because nothing is going to stop me or stand in my way.  Any obstacle blocking my path I am going to destroy or hurdle over with ease.

In order to be successful we have to do the hard things we don’t want to do and are to afraid of doing.  Now is the time to put the fear aside and take the bull by horns and go for a helluva ride.  I found this from the Business Insider and it is called the 19 hard things you need to do to be successful:

  1. You have to make the call you’re afraid to make.
  2. You have to get up earlier than you wan to get up.
  3. You have to give more than you get in return right away.
  4. You have to care more about others than they care about you.
  5. You have to fight when you are already injured, bloody, and sore.
  6. You have to feel unsure and insecure when playing it safe seems smarter.
  7. You have to lead when no one else is following you yet.
  8. You have to invest in yourself even though no one else is.
  9. You have to look like a fool while you’re looking for answers you don’t have.
  10. You have to grind out the details when it’s easier to shrug them off.
  11. You have to deliver results when making excuses is an option.
  12. You have to search for your own explanations even when you’re told to accept the “facts”.
  13. You have to make mistakes and look like an idiot.
  14. You have to try and fail and try again.
  15. You have to run faster even though you’re out of breath.
  16. You have to be kind to people who have been cruel to you.
  17. You have to meet deadlines are unreasonable and deliver results that are unparalleled.
  18. You have to be accountable for your actions even when things go wrong.
  19. You have to keep moving towards where you want to be no matter what’s in front of you.

You have to do the hard things.  The things that no one else is doing.  The things that scare you.  The things that make you wonder how much longer you can hold on.  Those are the things that define you.  Those are the things that make the difference between living a life or mediocrity or outrageous success.  The hard things are the easiest things to avoid.  To excuse away.  To pretend like they don’t apply to you.  Do the hard things.  You might be surprised at how amazing you really are.

The Man Who Never Gave Up

With the year coming to an end and the start of a new one filled with so much hope, promise, success and triumphs, I ask you, how are you going to make this year different than the last?  What is your plan?  What are you going to do differently to achieve your goals?  In order to achieve those goals, you must have that spark, that passion and that drive to tackle, any and all obstacles standing in your way.  You must have the never say die, never quit, win at all costs attitude the whole year and keep that mojo going.  This year is the year, the year to be successful, the year to lose weight, the year to get in shape, the year to land your dream job, the year to get your house and to achieve all of which your heart desires.  I have a video for us of a young gentleman who never gave up, who has the passion, the heart and the desire to get better and be what he wants to be.  He overcame the emotional, physical and mental challenges he has been burden with his entire life.  He has made an amazing transformation with a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears and the results are truly amazing.  Anything can be achieved as long as you think you can.  It is all in the state of mind.  If your mind is strong and your believe than the sky is your limit.

You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

What Motivates You?

When the alarm goes off in the morning, you open your eyes, plant your feet on the ground and prepare to attack the day, what motivates you to succeed over the day?  What are you thinking about and what are your goals?  Are you getting closer to achieving them, if so, how?  What is your ultimate goal?  These are all challenging questions all of us ask ourselves day in and day out and yet I bet most of us do nothing to inch us closer to our initial goal.  We may be to tired, lazy, burnt out and just think we can always try again tomorrow.  One of the best ways I found to help me stay on track of what I want, where I want to go and when I want to get there is by writing out all of my goals with exact dates and when to accomplish them and post it somewhere I can read it several times everyday. Doing this helps you stay on track in your subconscious as well as your conscious mind.  You will be doing all of the necessary steps towards your goals whether you think you are or not.

My motivation right now is 1.) Be the greatest father to my daughters I can be, 2.) Be the greatest husband I can be, 3.) Save money to move into a house and 4.) Break 90 on the golf course.  Simple easy goals that are important to be and beneficial to my family(well maybe not the golf score.)  My motivation every morning is to work as much as I can to save as much money as I can to get us one step closer to being first time home buyers.  With my family growing, the amount of free space we have in our two bedroom apartment is shrinking. Add that in with the lack of a yard and you can see why we want to move.  I want my kids to have a great big old backyard to run around in, play in and enjoy everyday just like me and my wife did growing up.  Kids need to be outside, getting dirty, exploring, pretending and making messes.   That’s half the fun of what growing up is about.  I am doing everything in my power to make my goal a reality and even have a due date.

With your goals in mind, here are some quotes about determination and success to help guide us to achieving our dreams.  Good luck and happy dream chasing.  Go after them.

Rules of Motivation

Good day everyone!  I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend like I did.  I got some family time in, went to the beach and got some great sunshine and had some very enjoyable dinners with some great company.  With my family in town it has definitely reminded of how grateful I am and also it to keep being motivated to push towards my goals.  What is your daily motivation?  What do you get up for in the morning and what is your goal?  My goal right now is to get a house.  I now have a beautiful family of 4 and we are slowly running out of room in my town home apartment.  I want to have a fantastic home with a big yard to chase after my kids so I am staying focused and motivated to reach my goal.  Often times we get off track and lose sight of our goals but I have found some rules of motivation to help jumpstart us back on the path to righteousness.  These rules of motivation apply to everything in work, life and love.

1. Do not worry if you make mistakes. Making mistakes is one way we can learn and improve in our life. There is no one that has never made any mistake. The most important thing here is you realize that you have made mistakes and do not repeat the same mistakes again. You learn more from mistakes you have made than any other way.

2. Feel happy about your life. Happiness generates more positive energy within you. This energy is important to keep you more optimistic and enthusiastic about your life. Happy people are always motivated to accomplish something in their life.

3. Get out of your comfort zone. You need to learn to get into unfamiliar surroundings to explore better opportunities. Do not just stick around with the same people, same known places, skills or work. Explore new things that will enhance your ability to achieve your goals and keep you stay motivated.

4. Think the unthinkable. Nothing will stop you from thinking of goals you want to achieve. You have to dream high in order to set high goals. Everything starts with a dream. Do not limit yourself in your goals and dreams.

5. Read and listen to inspirational materials. You have to start spending time reading motivational books and listening to inspirational tapes. But, you must also implement what you learn from your reading and listening. New things you learn from these exercises will give you excitement and energy to work harder toward achieving your goals.

6. Resolve problems instead of running away. Your ride to success destination will not be smooth all the time. You will face difficulties. Do not quit when you experience predicaments in your quest to achieve your dreams. Frustrations and setbacks naturally form as parts of your success venture.

7. Appreciate every moment of your life. Think of what your life really is as of now. Appreciate every moment you have currently. Thinking about the past or day dreaming about the future will not bring you anywhere. Appreciating your current conditions makes you feel much better and realize the need to move forward to achieve your goals.

8. Finish what you start. Once you have started something, finish it. Never leave what you do halfway regardless of the end result. This will train you to accomplish something out of things that you do.

9. Face challenges one at a time. Challenges come to us almost all the time. Take up one challenge at a time. Do not try to accumulate and face them at one go. As the challenges accumulate, you will only feel less motivated to face them and finally unable to complete anything.

10. Care less about what people say. You may hear a lot of bad things people say about you. Sometimes those bad comments may come from somebody close to you. As long as you fully know what you are doing to achieve your goals, you can let those comments fall into deaf ears. Thinking too much about what people say will only make you weaker and lose focus on your effort.
