Pride in Movement

A couple of things you can do to move your body around, burn some calories and increase your activity level without even knowing it is chores.  Chores are a great way to get some physical activity and make you feel good about yourself.  Have you ever done any task that was physically laboring and yielded such a great result? And you were so proud of it, right?  There are many chores out there we should be doing, doing well and always taking great pride in your work.  Enjoy the movement  and the activity you  are doing and do it to the best of your capabilities.  There are many things you do that produce instant dramatic results in which you see the effect minute by minute.  Mowing a lawn for example, you can see where you have been, where you need to go, how much better the lawn looks and you are excited and feel good that you completed that chore.  Thats called pride.

Now, take pride in your movement by simply enjoying the whole experience.  You are outside, getting fresh air, getting a core and leg work out by pushing that gas powered mower and you are wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.  I tell you what though, if you want to have a great workout, I would recommend getting an old school push mower.  Guarantee it will light you up and you will appreciate the gas mower so much more.

On Sunday, I did a handful of things that reaped a great reward and I take great pride in doing.

  • I washed my car.  Every man should take great pride in maintaining a good looking ride.  Your car is your fashion statement and a true reflection on yourself, how you treat your ride is how you treat yourself.  It is a great time to really go over your car and see any minor nicks and scratches.  When you wash and dry your car, you end up bending, squatting, twisting, turning, and scrubbing without even realizing you are.  After it is all done you can look back on it and just say ” I did that and dang she looks great”
  • I swept the back porch.  Nothing really exciting, but yet you are using a broom and engaging your core as you are sweeping debris away.  My porch was really dirty with leaves and debris from some windy days here, so it was quite nice to physically see what the leaves be gone.
  • Vacuumed the house.  This is a chore I have honestly liked doing since a little boy.  The fact you get to run this machine around and it makes a bunch of noise as it is cleaning up dirt was awesome to me.  You could see the lines you created and you could hear that sound when you ran over really dirty spots.  You know your place now looks better, smells better and is clean.  For a different twist on it, try to vacuum with your non-dominant hand.  It will challenge your brain, work your dexterity, and challenge your core.

Regardless of the chore, take the time to enjoy the movement and do not be in such a rush to get it over and done with. Realize you are getting a workout and some always needed body movement.  Enjoy the movement, enjoy the process and enjoy moving your body, the greatest tool ever created.
